MTP Cassette MTP System

Things You Must Know About MTP Cassette

With increasing demand for faster data transmission speed, 40G and 100G network have been widely applied to data centers. When it comes to cabling system, data center managers usually prefer fiber optic components which can provide high bandwidth, high port density, easy management, future data rates migration and security monitoring. Modular system is ideal option which can realize simple high-density installation and tidy cable management. MTP cassette, as the key component of the modular system, is widely used for high-density cabling in data centers. This article will talk about things you must know about MTP cassette.

Overview of MTP Cassette

MTP fiber optic cassette is pre-terminated and pre-tested enclosed unit. It is usually fitted with 12 fibers or 24 fibers. Structured with LC or SC adapters on the front side of the cassette and MTP adapters at the rear of the cassette, MTP fiber optic cassette provides secure transition between MTP and LC or SC discrete connectors. Therefore, it is commonly used to interconnect MTP backbones with LC or SC patching. Supporting various network cabling standards, the cassette is easy to mix, match, add and replace as the connectivity needs grow or change. Here is a figure of 12-fiber and 24-fiber MTP-LC cassette for you.

Working Principle of MTP Cassette

MTP cassette serves to realize the transition from small diameter ribbon cables terminated with MPO MTP connector(s) to the more common LC or SC interfaces used on the transceiver terminal equipment. Typically, the fan-outs incorporate LC or SC connectors plug into LC or SC adapters on the front side of the cassette and MTP MPO fiber connector(s) plug into MTP adapter(s) mounted at the rear of the cassette. One or more MTP fan-out assemblies can be installed inside the cassette to connect up to two 12-fiber ribbon cables for a total of 24 fibers. Alignment pins are pre-installed in the MTP connector located inside the cassette. These pins precisely align the mating fibers in the MTP connectors at either end of the array cables that plug into the cassettes.

For application, MTP cassette can be easily found in 10G, 40G and 100G network applications in data center. For 10G connectivity, MTP cassette is used to connect 10G device to 10G device, especially when the distance between two devices is too long. And for 40G connectivity, MTP cassette is used to connect 40G device to 40G device. Besides, it can provide the smooth path for 10G to 40G migration and 40G to 100G migration. What’s more, it is important to buy MTP cassette from MTP cassette modules manufacturers, or you may get terrible network performance.

Advantages of MTP Cassette

MTP cassette has many advantages.

Advantage 1. It allows for rapid deployment of high density data center infrastructure as well as improved troubleshooting and reconfiguration during moves, adds and changes.

Advantage 2. It is designed to reduce installation time and cost for an optical network infrastructure in the premises environment.

Advantage 3. As MTP component, it features superior optical and mechanical properties.

Advantage 4. It can provide optimized performance for low insertion losses and power penalties in tight power budget, high-speed network environments.

Advantage 5. It has internal fiber management which keeps the fibers from bending too tightly.

Advantage 6. It has the array connection located in a recess in the cassette housing which provides better protection.

Advantage 7. A 12-fiber or 24-fiber cassette can be mounted in 1U scaling up to 72 or in 3U scaling up to 336 discrete LC connectors which is convenient for high-density cabling.

Conclusion

Characterized with fast installation, high density and high performance cabling for data centers, MTP components gain great polarity among the world. MTP cassette, able to deliver high optical performance, rapid and error-free installation and reliable robust operation, is a great choice for high-density cabling system. And I hope after reading this article, you can have a better understanding of MTP cassette.
